Yamaha Launches new DZR and DXS-XLF powered loudspeakers with Dante versions

The exceptional flexibility and great sound of Yamaha’s latest generation of loudspeakers has long been the choice of live bands, DJs, presentations and corporate functions in small-to-medium sized venues, as well as houses of worship, clubs and other installations.

Now Yamaha introduces the brand new DZR and DXS-XLF ranges - the company’s first fully-integrated, ‘smart’ range of professional, powered loudspeakers with flagship specifications and features, including Dante audio networking, in an accessible class of products.

The new DZR and DXS-XLF ranges represent an ideal marriage of the very latest Yamaha digital signal processing (DSP), amplifier design and speaker development technologies for audio and music professionals. Including Dante in powered loudspeakers is a ‘first’ for Yamaha. When the new, Dante-equipped speakers are used with the company’s CL/QL/TF series digital mixing consoles and/or networked audio products, it delivers a cutting edge networking and control solution for both portable and permanent audio systems.

The DZR series consists of the DZR15, DZR12 and DZR10 two-way, full-range models (with Dante-fitted DZR15-D, DZR12-D and DZR10-D versions), plus the three-way, full-range DZR315 and Dante-equipped DZR315-D. Complementing them are four DXS-XLF extended low frequency subwoofers, the DXS18XLF, DXS15XLF and Dante-enabled DXS18XLF-D and DXS15XLF-D.

The DZR15, DZR12 and DZR10 (and equivalent Dante models) all feature a rotatable, constant directivity horn to allow vertical or horizontal mounting, designed to provide smooth, level coverage with minimal roll-off. HF transducers comprise a 2˝ voice coil and 1˝ throat compression driver, a titanium diaphragm and neodymium magnet, housed in a durable, heat resistant aluminium cast frame, with newly-developed proprietary LF transducers using large 3˝ voice coils, cast aluminium frames and a strong, lightweight neodymium magnet to provide powerful, tightly controlled bass response.  The midrange transducers of the three-way DZR315 and DZR315-D feature an 8˝ cone, 1.5˝ voice coil for high efficiency and ultra-low distortion.

All models feature new, high efficiency power amplifiers, specially designed to deliver superior quality sound at best-in-class SPLs. Each DZR range model is equipped with a lightweight 2000W Class-D amplifier and switching power supply with PFC, with high-performance, 96kHz DSP processors providing Advanced FIR-X tuning, optimum EQ and Yamaha’s D-Contour intelligent, multiband compression for superior tuning and ultimate control, with protection circuits ensuring extended usability with consistent, worry-free performance.

An onboard LCD screen allows users to easily control a wide variety of functions, with up to eight user presets for saving parameter adjustments. Optimised factory presets are also available for using the DZR and DXS-XLF series in combination.

While the DZR models already deliver stunning bass, the new DXS-XLF 18˝ and 15˝ subwoofers match them perfectly for bass-heavy applications that need a tightly focused, top-to-bottom sound. Onboard D-XSUB bass processing delivers total management of the lower frequencies, NORMAL mode delivering ideally balanced low-frequency response and BOOST a tighter, punchier response. XTENDED LF mode drops the low end down even further for thunderous bottom end previously unheard of in a cabinet of this size. With DXS-XLF setups of two or more subwoofers, Cardioid Mode effectively decreases the sound pressure on stage while increasing it towards the audience.

With rugged and roadworthy premium plywood enclosures, scratch-resistant Polyurea coating, a variety of mounting options and exceptional portability, the new DZR and DXS-XLF loudspeakers truly are a worthy successor to the legendary DSR series.

«This was a range of speakers that only Yamaha could design, thanks to our breadth of experience in all areas of sound reproduction, acoustics and digital technology» says Yoshi Tsugawa, general manager of Yamaha’s Pro Audio Division. «Particularly with the integration of Dante networking technology - enabling smart, simplified system configuration and operation with industry-leading digital mixing consoles and installation products - we have not only expanded our range of professional powered loudspeakers, but also updated our pro audio solutions as a whole in order to adapt to the growing demands of today's sound professionals. »

DZR and DXS-XLF loudspeakers will be available from summer 2018 (regular models) and winter 2018 (Dante models).
