Celestion announces the availability of their new Compression Driver at Prolight & Sound 2019

Celestion Announces the Availability of the CDX14-3040 and CDX14-2410 Neodymium Magnet Compression Driver at this yearʼs ProLight + Sound (Hall 8.0, Stand G81)

Celestion, one of the worldʼs leading suppliers of professional loudspeakers and compression drivers for sound reinforcement applications is very pleased to announce that the new CDX14-3040 neodymium magnet compression driver is now in stock and available.

This model utilizes a singlepiece pure titanium diaphragm and surround—together with a compact lightweight magnet assembly—to deliver a superior high frequency performance.

The CDX14-3040 is a 1.4-inch exit, a-inch voice coil neodymium magnet compression driver. It features a stiff and light edgewound coil copper clad aluminium voice coil and delivers 75Wrms (AES standard) power handling as well as a sensitivity of 106.5 dB from 500 Hz to 20 kHz. Celestion recommends a minimum crossover frequency of 1 kHz (at 12 dBaoctave).

The CDX14-3040 is the third large format compression driver developed by Celestion to incorporate a a-inch single-piece titanium diaphragm and surround, following the introduction of two ferrite magnet drivers: the 1.4-inch exit CDX14-30a0 and 2-inch exit CDX20-3020. Thanks to the lightweight neodymium magnet assembly the CDX14-3040 offers a size and weight advantage over its ferrite magnet counterparts, weighing in at a modest 1.4kgaa.1lb at a diameter of 1a5mma5.ain.CDX14 2410 1HI

“Celestionʼs engineers have applied advanced finite element analysis techniques, together with our unique, in-house loudspeaker modelling software, to create a device that further improves upon the performance of a design that has long been an industry standard,” says Nigel Wood, Celestion Managing Director. “Our CDX14-3040 reproduces the very high frequency performance of many popular large format titanium compression drivers while also offering a number of performance advantages such as lower distortion as well as reduced size and weight.”

The company launches too the latest “ultra-low noise” compression driver, CDX14-2410, featuring a patented phase-plug design which, together with a unique “deepdrawn diaphragm” results in more accurate sounding HF, exhibiting much lower distortion than many comparable devices already on the market.

“In essence, the 2410 is a low profile, ferrite magnet version of the wellestablished CDX14-2420 neodymium magnet compression driver,” commented Celestion Marketing Manager Ken Weller. “The ferrite magnet means it is not so light weight as the neo counterpart, however it delivers the same high levels of performance at a more cost-effective price point.”

Designed and developed at Celestionʼs headquarters in Ipswich, England, CDX14-2410 features a 60mm/2.4-inch diameter edgewound copper clad aluminium voice coil, and a a5mma1.4-inch exit size. The new driver provides 50-watt power handling and delivers a 106dB sensitivity performance over a frequency range of 800-20,000Hz, with a recommended crossover frequency of 1200Hz.

CDX14-2410 employs a patented phase plug design, where the suppression of cavity resonances occurs at much higher frequencies—compared with conventional compression designs—resulting in a much lower distortion performance. In addition, the resulting lower compression ratio reduces air non-linearity and allows for higher maximum SPL.

Also featured is a titanium diaphragm that has been deep-drawn for increased stiffness. This creates a higher threshold frequency to avoiding the possibility of dome break-up, and therefore distortion, within the critical listening band of 2-10kHz; a shortcoming often associated with the lower profile diaphragms of typical compression drivers.
