ISE teams up with LLUM BCN light festival

Showcasing how light can transform public spaces, LLum BCN will take place 5-7 November 2021. ISE is pleased to join the sponsors and judging panel for the forthcoming international festival of light art, LLUM BCN, which takes place in the Poblenou district of Barcelona.

Just one of several initiatives by the City of Barcelona, LLUM BCN is an internationally renowned festival and one of the most anticipated events in the city's cultural calendar. This year sees its tenth edition moved to November as it prepares to return to its usual format in February 2022.

LLUM BCN sees both national and international creators use light, movement, virtual reality or artificial intelligence in their artworks to explore new forms and meanings for the city. For three nights (5-7 November 2021), artists such as Pablo Valbuena, Quiet Ensemble, Playmodes, Guillermo Santomá, Onionlab and Tigrelab will join 16 schools of art, design, lighting and architecture in Barcelona, in a great event that will showcase the creative impact of light, digital technology and moving images.

Mike Blackman, Integrated Systems Events Managing Director, commented: “The impact that light can have as art has long been an area of focus at ISE and we are very proud to be involved with this exciting Light Art extravaganza in Barcelona. It is sure to be an extraordinary showcase and we are very much looking forward to bringing some of its magical elements to ISE 2022 at the Gran Via next year.”

Judging will take place over the weekend when groups will be visiting all the features. Integrated Systems Events Operations Director, André Hoojer, will be joining the jury this year, which also includes:

  • Cristina Castells, Barcelona Local Energy Agency

  • Eulàlia Bosch of the Eugènia Balcells Foundation

  • Mariona Omedes, winner of the 2011 National Culture Award of Catalonia, awarded by CoNCA in the audiovisual category

  • Jordi Costa, cultural manager and university professor

  • Maria Güell, Artistic Director of LLUM BCN

Lighting has long formed an integral part of the ISE event and plans to expand these areas for ISE 2022 are well underway. For example, the demonstration areas have been expanded, with a new Lighting & Staging area which will feature many technologies designed to create amazing, immersive experiences with light.

Integrated Systems Europe, ISE 2022, will take place at the Fira de Barcelona Gran Vía on 1-4 February 2022. The ISE Conference programme runs from Monday 31 January through to Friday 4 February.
