Area Four Industries brings Colour & Sound to Lollapalooza

Teams from three different European offices of Area Four industries recently joined forces to work on an exciting project for Lollapalooza Music Festival in Berlin.

Area Four Industries (A4i) is the world’s largest manufacturer of modular aluminium truss and staging systems, with major brand production facilities (MILOS, LITEC, TOMCAT & JTE) located strategically around the globe working in close partnership with specialist design & distribution centres worldwide.

An extremely challenging deadline was presented to A4i UK to design and build a custom, high-capacity roof system for the Perry Stage at the music festival via their London based client Colour Sound Experiment.

As an existing long term user of LITEC, the brief from Colour Sound Experiment was to design the structure around truss products that would dovetail into their existing LITEC stock, thus ensuring an easy to manage inventory and a good return on investment The resulting 12m x 10m stage roof incorporated a modular Kader profile canopy configuration with 6m PA wings, the grid was constructed from LITEC QL52 high load truss and was supported on eleven LITEC QH40SA 10m high towers; bespoke side walls were designed and manufactured in the UK and full structural analysis and TUV approval coordination was provided by Norbert Tripp, Technical Director of Area Four Industries Germany.

The roof was lifted using Colour Sound’s own stock of EXE-Rise 1000kg 8:1 electric chain hoists, providing an impressive 10,000kg production payload load capacity which was perfect for the extensive lighting, video and effects package also supplied by Colour Sound.

Hard work and co-ordination between the regional A4i design offices and the LITEC engineering department ensured the structure was designed, manufactured and delivered on time for the event. Adam Beaumont (A4i U.K. LITEC and EXE Brand Manager) and Andrea Sentello (LITEC R&D Manager) were on hand in Berlin to assist the Colour Sound crew with the inaugural build.

The Perry stage show was a resounding success and Colour Sound Experiment managed yet another stellar installation during an extremely busy European festival season.
