Showlight shares two new talks on the storytelling power of light

Ahead of Showlight 2029, which will take place from 23 to 26 April in Granada, Spain, the quadrennial lighting event has released two more videos of presentations delivered in 2025, showcasing two very different approaches to storytelling through light.

Jesper Kongshaug: the experimental language of light

Jesper Kongshaug has worked at the intersection of performing arts, light art, architecture and lighting technology for over 25 years. At Showlight, he presented lighting and stage visual projects for performing arts company Hotel Pro Forma, as well as exterior lighting projects conceived around evocative theatrical landscapes.

Kongshaug is also curator of the Copenhagen Light Festival and lectures at cultural institutions around the world.

Thanks to the great response to my presentation, several people travelled from the United States to attend the Copenhagen Light Festival this year. I will return the compliment by travelling to the BLINK light festival in Cincinnati this October, where I will also deliver a keynote speech to students on the University of Cincinnati's lighting design programme, explains Kongshaug.

His book on lighting in design is scheduled for publication later this year.

Ezequiel Nobili: light and vibration for everyone

A lighting designer and member of AAI, Spain's Association of Lighting Authors, Nobili works across the performing and audiovisual arts. He also teaches at various institutions, focusing on light and the emotional impact of colour.

His presentation explored Mayrit. Water, Stone, Fire, and Flesh, an ephemeral installation created for LuzMadrid 2023, the Madrid International Festival of Light, which highlighted the historical significance of the city's Arab wall. Using olfactory, tactile, visual and auditory elements, the installation offered an accessible multisensory experience for all audiences.

Nobili is currently working on Cariño, pásame el pan, a flamenco theatre production; an ephemeral façade lighting installation for a luxury retail store; and a museum exhibition lighting project alongside lighting designer Nicolás Fischtel.
