Funktion-One strengthens its technology communication with the appointment of Rob Speight

Funktion-One has appointed audio professional Rob Speight as its new Technical Marketing Director, reinforcing the company's commitment to communicating the engineering, philosophy and real-world performance behind its loudspeaker technologies.

Three decades of experience in professional audio

Rob brings more than three decades of experience in professional audio, spanning live sound, touring, production, education, broadcasting and technical management. Throughout his career, he has worked for sound reinforcement companies, as an FOH and monitor engineer, as well as in production and post-production for broadcast media. He also has over 30 years of experience as a professional audio journalist, contributing to magazines and manufacturers on both sides of the Atlantic.

His appointment comes at a time when Funktion-One is seeking to build greater understanding of its distinctive design philosophies and technologies, while expanding the company's visibility beyond the markets traditionally associated with the brand.

Funktion-One is one of those rare companies where the technology stems from a deeply held belief about what sound should be. There is an extraordinary amount of knowledge, engineering expertise and passion within this company, and I am excited to share all of this with a wider audience of industry professionals and end users. For me, my role is about bridging that gap. It is not about turning engineering concepts into advertising language, but about understanding why something was designed the way it was, what difference that makes in real-world applications, and then finding a way to communicate that clearly and honestly, said Rob.

Engineering, communication and education

Rob's responsibilities will encompass technical communications, product positioning, content creation, education and wider brand strategy, working closely with Funktion-One's engineering and leadership teams. One of his main objectives will be to connect the company's engineering principles with the experience of those who ultimately use and listen to its systems.

"Sound isn't just something we hear. It's something we experience," Rob continued. "That idea is at the heart of Funktion-One. Technology is important, but ultimately, all that engineering work exists to create an emotional experience for the audience", he said.

The appointment also reflects an increased commitment to education and technical knowledge surrounding Funktion-One systems. Rob believes that the performance of a professional loudspeaker system is closely linked to the knowledge of those responsible for its installation, configuration and operation.

"The people who design and operate a system are part of the experience it delivers. Training and education therefore play a fundamental role, not only in helping engineers get the most out of the technology, but also in ensuring that audiences enjoy the sound experience the system was designed to deliver", he concluded.

A handover in the marketing team

"We are very pleased that Rob is joining our team and extend him a warm welcome. His technical expertise will be extremely valuable in communicating just how far Funktion-One loudspeakers have evolved and the high level of sophistication and performance they have achieved", said Tony Andrews.

Rob succeeds Michael Nicholson in the role. "For me, this is a bittersweet but also exciting moment. On the one hand, we are saying goodbye to our dear friend Michael Nicholson, who has been Marketing Director at Funktion-One for many years; on the other, we are welcoming Rob Speight, an old friend who will be taking over this responsibility", explained Ann Andrews.

My job isn't to change what Funktion-One is or make it sound like every other company. It's about understanding what makes the company unique and helping to communicate that clearly, honestly and in a way people can connect with, Rob added.
