Adding the MT19CP-8 to the family of high end Satori drivers is an exciting chapter for SB Acoustics. The Satori line of products are the flagship products within SB Acoustics and the MT19CP-8 is the newest addition to the Satori family.
Is the first Coaxial driver to appear in the Satori line which currently consists of a wide range of Midwoofer, Midrange and Tweeter transducers. Coaxial transducer are closer to a true point source compared to a separate woofer/tweeter transducer combinations. This brings some advantages with regards to physical time alignment of a very broad bandwidth of the coaxial woofer and tweeter combination so that the sound source stays time coherent at any angle.
The new Coaxial Satori MT19CP-8 is our take on a high end Coaxial transducer that is equally suited to midrange/tweeter reproduction in a larger multi-way speaker system or as a midwoofer/tweeter for a smaller monitor style speaker.

Any Coaxial speaker has a complex set of design challenges that adds several layers of complexity to the development and design choices. Considering the tweeter is located concentrically within the woofer, the woofer cone will naturally form part of the tweeters acoustical performance. One of the challenges to this, is that the best cone profile for woofer and midrange reproduction is not necessarily a geometry that forms a good waveguide for best tweeter performance. Another aspect is the physical size of the tweeter.
Since the tweeter is located inside the voice coil former of the woofer, the tweeter will need to be of a relatively compact design. If we choose to increase the woofer voice coil size to accommodate a much larger tweeter assembly, well then we are compromising the midrange reproduction by introducing unnecessary mass and inductance in the form of a larger voice coil.
The Satori MT19CP-8 has been developed from the ground up taking these coaxial driver design constraints into careful consideration. There has been a high emphasis on overall power response from the transducer combination as well as SB’s usual attention to best possible reproduction in the time domain. The tweeter is an entirely new design specifically for this purpose and uses a high power neodymium motor system with full copper cap and does not compromise on performance. The woofer motor system is built with a powerful ring neodymium magnet system with extended copper cap and generously vented pole piece and a 6mm air gap height. The 38.6mm voice coil is wound with light weight copper clad aluminium wire to a height of 13.2mm for a peak to peak linear stroke of 7.2mm and a high sensitivity of 90dB. The proprietary cone material with Egyptian Papyrus fibres is suspended in a soft rubber surround; staying true to the philosophy of the Satori line of high performance transducers with very low losses and low damping for the best reproduction of transient details.

The rubber surround is a purposefully developed low profile triple roll design for minimum high frequency diffraction. The result is a remarkably versatile very wide bandwidth coaxial transducer with a very accurate and natural sound signature.
