Quality is not at odds with price. Often, simpler products are not only more affordable but also offer the most advanced technology. This is the case with the snapchain 2.0 cable carrier from igus, designed for flat and low-voltage cables, consisting of a single lateral link to which cables can be fastened using cable ties.
It is also made entirely from recycled material, making it a sustainable alternative.
In cash register systems, office furniture, and even arcade machines, there is a significant space limitation to ensure a reliable power supply for the cables. To address this challenge, igus introduced the snapchain cable carrier 20 years ago.
This cable carrier consists of a single lateral link in which the cables are fastened and guided within a predefined bending radius, making it suitable for extremely tight spaces and proven effective in thousands of applications worldwide. Now, igus is introducing an optimized new version.
We aim to provide our customers with greater flexibility in cable carrier installation. For this reason, we have modified the design to allow cables to be easily fastened using standard cable ties, says Kira Weller, Product Manager for cable carriers at igus.
Cable ties are easily inserted into the lateral link, placed around the cables, and secured by closing them. A highlight of the snapchain 2.0 is that it is produced entirely with recycled igumid CG material.
A New Product Made from Recycled Cable Carriers
The igumid CG material comes entirely from recycled cable carriers. Since 2019, igus has been carrying out the Chainge program to recover used cable carriers, regardless of the manufacturer. In this process, materials are sorted by type, cleaned, and restored to their original state, all in a single procedure. They are then transformed into igumid CG, a material successfully used in the E2.1 series of cable carriers since 2022, and its tensile strength and breaking modulus have been confirmed through various test series conducted in igus' 3,800-square-meter in-house laboratory at its headquarters.

Recycled material cable carriers make a valuable contribution to resource conservation and promote the circular economy. According to the environmental product declaration (EPD), this sustainable raw material cycle also leads to a reduction of up to 28% in CO2 emissions.
The snapchain 2.0 is a complete and affordable system that provides our customers with a reliable, sustainable, and easy-to-install product. It is the second series of cable carriers for which we manufacture the standard version using recycled material, and at the end of its life, it can also be completely recycled, says Weller.
