Penn Elcom expands its range with high-efficiency LED strips and adjustable colour temperature

Penn Elcom has launched its own LED tape range, comprising four variants: PRIMO, Dim-to-Warm, Dynamic White (tuneable white) and full-colour RGBW COB. The new range comes with 5 or 7-year warranties and support from a dedicated UK-based LED team.

The range was developed drawing on Penn Elcom's experience and following an extensive analysis of the options already available on the market.

We looked at the competitive LED tape market and identified areas of demand where both quality and pricing could be optimised and improved, commented Rob Platt, Penn Elcom's Sales & Marketing Director.

The company's in-house wiring department has spent years cutting, soldering and assembling many of the premium LED tapes and strips available on the market. For the production of this new range, Penn Elcom draws on its manufacturing facilities in the UK, USA and Asia, as well as its global distribution network.

Key aspects of its development include LED chip quality, correctly positioned cut points, connectors, energy efficiency, a range of widths, LED chip binning and colour stability.

Four variants

  • PRIMO is a high-efficiency warm white LED tape designed to reduce running costs in buildings, architectural applications and set dressing. It delivers 1,510 lumens per metre with a power consumption of 9 W per metre and a luminous efficacy of 167 lm/W, achieving energy efficiency class C under UK and EU directives.
  • Dim-to-Warm allows the lighting to be adjusted from 3000 K warm white to an 1800 K amber tone, similar to candlelight. It offers smooth dimming from 100% down to 3%, recreating the characteristic glow of halogen lamps with the energy efficiency of LED technology.
  • Tuneable/Dynamic White provides an adjustable white colour temperature between 2200 K and 3500 K in a single strip, combining 120 warm white and 120 cool white LED chips per metre.
  • COB RGBW is an LED tape featuring Chip-on-Board technology that produces a continuous, uniform line of light without visible light points or individual diodes. It offers a full range of RGBW colours and incorporates a dedicated 4000 K white channel. Its pulse-width modulation (PWM) control options include Bluetooth, DALI, DMX and RF (radio frequency).

New markets for LED tape

Beyond the architectural, theatrical and commercial sectors, demand for LED tape has also increased among manufacturers of flight cases and other types of cases, one of Penn Elcom's core markets. These companies are diversifying into new applications, such as mobile coffee carts and food stalls. Meanwhile, manufacturers of lighting, sound and video consoles are incorporating practical lighting solutions into their product ranges, opening up new opportunities for this technology.

Customers have access to Penn Elcom's dedicated UK-based LED team, which provides advice on selecting the most suitable products, technical documentation, quotations and cost-saving calculations. The team also offers guidance on power supplies, wiring and lighting control systems.
