Shure expands the capabilities of WAVETOOL with a new version of its live audio monitoring software, featuring instant replay, increased channel capacity and new collaboration tools.
WAVETOOL 4 is designed for theatre, live sound, broadcast and houses of worship. The software enables users to monitor, replay and check system audio in real time, bringing listening, playback, alerts and team communication together on a single platform.
One of the main new features is Global Instant Replay, which allows users to go back and review up to 30 minutes of system-wide history. This enables technicians to analyse specific incidents and check what was happening across different channels when an issue occurred.
The new version also increases capacity to up to 192 channels and supports eight simultaneous users, a configuration designed for productions where several professionals need to access the system at the same time.
Monitoring and collaboration from a single platform
WAVETOOL 4 allows engineers to listen directly to live audio channels while monitoring both wired and wireless sources. Rather than relying solely on meter-based monitoring, the platform combines visual information with direct listening to audio signals.
The interface has also been redesigned to accommodate productions of different sizes. Users can enlarge, resize and prioritise channels according to the requirements of each project.
Another feature is designed to detect microphone-related issues. The system identifies potential faults during production and filters expected sounds to reduce false alarms and unnecessary alerts.
Communication tools are also integrated into the monitoring environment. WAVETOOL 4 includes chat, image sharing, reactions and voice messages to facilitate coordination between team members without leaving the platform.

From microphone setup to live production
The software can be used throughout different stages of a production, from microphone setup and testing to live monitoring and post-event analysis.
The history playback function makes it possible, for example, to review an issue after it occurs and compare the audio signal with the information available in the system. This can help determine the source of an issue before making changes to other elements of the setup.

WAVETOOL 4 also offers different licensing options. Subscriptions and perpetual licences are managed through ShureCloud, allowing the software to be used for projects and tours as well as permanent installations.
WAVETOOL 4 is now available and includes a free 30-day trial, allowing users to test the software before purchasing a licence.
