How can equipment, lighting and video technology be integrated into a dynamic overall system? What is the latest trend in multi-functional entertainment complexes and temporary theatre venues? What national and international standards need to be observed for event technology, images and films?
At Stage|Set|Scenery there will be a special focus on stage equipment and stage technology. The international trade show and conference for theatre, film and event technology will be taking place from 20 to 22 June in Berlin and is co-organised by Messe Berlin and Deutsche Theatertechnische Gesellschaft (DTHG)

Planners, architects and customers will have an opportunity to meet with companies who are involved in major international projects, including the Moscow Bolshoi Theatre, as well as recent projects such as the Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg, the Barenboim Said Academy in Berlin and the Kulturpalast in Dresden"
Exhibitors from a total of 21 countries are expected to attend Stage|Set|Scenery. Those representing stage technology include Alfa System, Bosch Rexroth, Gala Systems, Columbus McKinnon Engineered Products, SBS Bühnentechnik, TAIT Stage Technologies, Show Theatre Equipment Trekwerk and Waagner-Biro Austria Stage Systems.
Energy efficiency and multi-functional systems: a dialogue among experts
Under the heading of ‘Excellence in Stage Technology’, workshops, round tables and presentations will be taking place in Hall 21 on all three days of the show where, together with exhibitors and experts, trade visitors will be able to discuss technical issues and the latest developments.
Reinhold Daberto of theapro has observed a new trend in networks and energy efficiency: ”Stage technology has long since experienced a digital transition. In future stage, lighting and sound will become fully networked, and technologies will become more energy-efficient, with better and energy-saving lighting for example. With equipment, unlike lighting, it is providing and setting it up that has the potential to save costs.There is also a growing focus on multi-functional event venues. Venues everywhere are repositioning themselves and aiming to provide daytime as well as evening attractions. Naturally, that means that venues must become more flexible. However, in order to make this flexibility count it requires more than moving boxes and chairs across the floor, but mechanical systems capable of handling everyday tasks without employing more staff”
Johannes Böhner of Bühnenplanung Walter Kottke sees giving audiences a special experience and creating dream worlds with the help of stage technology, lighting and multimedia as the new trend: “Interactive and intuitive solutions are now more in demand than ever. Nevertheless, when recreating a fantasy world in a live performance one has to be able to easily monitor and control all the parameters in order to respond to people interacting with events, and to do so without neglecting safety aspects. Altogether, an independent and gradually expanding microcosm that combines professionalism and, more importantly passion, is emerging here"
International Stage Technology Conference and excursions
At the International Stage Technology Conference, which will take place parallel with the trade show on 20 and 22 June, Reinhold Daberto will chair the panel discussion entitled ‘Theatre in Germany, a World Heritage: The Future as a Museum or as Theatre 4.0?’
High-ranking participants have been invited to speak. They include Marc Grandmontagne of Deutscher Bühnenverein, Beate Kahnert of Theater Freiburg, Horst Kunkel of Kunkel Consulting International, Rainer Münz, a specialist consultant for cultural buildings, and Prof. Oliver Scheytt of Kulturexperten.
On 23 June, the day after the show ends, a programme of excursions will take place. It includes trips to the Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg, the Kulturpalast in Dresden and the Barenboim Said Academy in Berlin.
