Stage Set Scenery, which will be taking place from 18 to 20 June 2019 on the Berlin Exhibition Grounds, is devoting a special display area to costume-makers. The International Trade Show and Conference for Theatre, Film and Event Technology is partnering with Gesellschaft der Theaterkostümschaffenden (GTKos) for the second time, in Hall 22.
GTKos provides a platform for everyone involved in the costume-making profession at theatres and other event venues in German speaking countries.
‘Costume-makersʼ conference and specialist costume-makersʼ events
At the Palais am Funkturm, under the heading of ‘new-fashion-textilesʼ and ʼOpera Europaʼ, GTKos will be hosting a three-day costume-makersʼ conference for its members and registered members of partnering networks, at which costume-makers from Germany, Austria and Switzerland can exchange views and attend training courses.
Lectures will also be part of the programme of events: on Tuesday, 18 June at 11 a.m., at the Immersive Showroom in Hall 20, trade visitors can look forward to Ingo Thomas, theatrical armourer at Staatstheater Stuttgart, talking about ‘Costume-making using 3D printingʼ. This will be followed by specialist costume-makersʼ events at the Palais am Funkturm on the subjects of costume management, production management/assistance, robemaking as well as training courses.
On Wednesday, 19 June, the relevant groups will meet to discuss tailoring, shoemaking and props/wardrobes, and on Thursday, 20 June, the topics will be costume painting, costume-making and womenʼs hatmaking. The annual general meeting of GTKos is scheduled to take place on 19 June from 12.40 to 3 p.m.

Highlights and innovations at the displays in Hall 22
Highlights in Hall 22 will include a presentation by Dorothea Nicolai, who among other things is in charge of costumes at the Bayreuth and Salzburg Festivals. She will be presenting two dance costumes whose design is based on historical figurines from the baroque period.
Other companies including 1st Selection, Cast4Art, Patin A Shop, Alexander Harr, The Tull Factory, Der rote Faden, Professional Fabric Dyse as well as training institutions will also be featuring this topic on the displays in Hall 22.
On the same subject, Bund der Szenografen, which also represents costumemakers, will be hosting a stand at the Co-Working Space for international associations in Hall 22. Also taking place on 20 June at the Round Table 23 from 2 to 2.45 p.m. will be a panel discussion commissioned by Bund der Szenografen. Under the heading of ʼHave you been shopping again?ʼ, the costume-maker and fashion designer Katharina Kromminga will be moderating a discussion on ‘Appreciating costume-makersʼ workʼ.
Guided tour and ticket service
In order to fully integrate the costume-makersʼ events into the exhibition, on 19 June 2019 from 11 to 11.30 am. a guided tour will take participants directly to the exhibitorsʼ stands.
Members of GTKos can obtain reduced-rate tickets to the conference and show by entering a membership code on the website of the Stage Set Scenery Ticket Shop or by presenting their credentials at the ticket office.
