New Shure digital wireless in-ear monitoring system

Shure announced the launch of the Axient® Digital PSM®, its first digital wireless in-ear monitoring solution designed to meet the needs of top touring artists and large-scale productions.

 

Axient Digital PSM has been meticulously designed and developed to meet the rigorous demands of audio professionals and rental companies, ensuring high RF performance and spectral efficiency that adapts to the rapidly evolving wireless landscape.

 

This new digital in-ear monitoring system is the first product line enabled for Shure's Wireless Multichannel Audio System (WMAS), allowing audio professionals to adapt to a wide variety of environments. With its cutting-edge design, Axient Digital PSM represents a long-term investment for tours, event spaces, and other applications, elevating flexibility and scalability to unprecedented levels.

Superior RF performance and audio quality

Axient Digital PSM allows engineers to say "yes" to more complex and creative productions because they will have access to more in-ear monitoring channels. With state-of-the-art digital technology and a sophisticated headphone amplifier design, artists will enjoy the highest audio quality without compromising signal reliability and a latency of less than 2.9 ms for a more immersive experience.

Powered by Shure WMAS, Axient Digital PSM features a multichannel wideband mode that significantly enhances spectral efficiency. With the multichannel wideband mode, users can improve RF performance or the scalability of channel numbers.

Developed by Shure, Spatial Diversity employs two transmission diversity antennas, each transmitting an identical signal on the same frequency, providing RF engineers with a new, simpler option to support separate areas and optimize coverage for stadiums, event venues, and broadcast studios. When transmitters with spatial diversity interact with bodypack receivers with True Digital Diversity, Axient Digital PSM combines four signal paths per channel to provide advanced protection against multipath interference and RF noise.

The Axient Digital PSM transmitters support both analog and digital input formats, including AES3, Dante, and AES67, allowing monitor engineers to easily connect to modern consoles. AES256 standard encryption is available for secure transmission.

 

I tried Axient Digital PSM with my musicians, and they said it was fantastic. The signal sounds clearer and cleaner. My two favorite features of Shure's new system are Spatial Diversity and ShowLink, as they do the work for you: it syncs immediately, ensures robust RF, and allows me to do everything from the side of the stage, avoiding hiding behind my guitarist or other musicians. Flexibility and scalability

Axient Digital PSM features two one-rack-space transmitter options: Quad ADTQ Transmitter and Dual ADTD Transmitter. Both offer four flexible and powerful transmission modes.

  • Multichannel wideband (regionally available according to WMAS regulations), supporting up to 28 channels per 6 MHz in the U.S. and 40 channels per 8 MHz in Europe. This exceeds the FCC requirement for WMAS to have an operating mode in which it can function with at least three audio channels per MHz.
  • Narrowband. Provides access to more RF output power per channel and maintains spectral efficiency at 17 channels per 6 MHz.
  • Analog FM. Allows high-quality audio with ultra-low latency.
  • Axient Digital Standard (Point-to-Point Mode) will allow users to send long-distance audio to any Axient Digital microphone receiver. It will be available via a post-launch firmware update.

Management and control

Axient Digital PSM is backed by the Shure Ecosystem, consisting of Wireless Workbench® and ShowLink®.

 

For the first time, monitor engineers can enjoy comprehensive remote management of each bodypack receiver on stage, with visibility of key parameters and the ability to make adjustments if necessary.

 

  • With ShowLink, real-time control allows continuous monitoring of all bodypack receivers, including channel quality, battery life, volume position, headphone connection status, and more. Remote management helps audio professionals know when it's time to change batteries, when to intervene if channel quality is compromised, resolve volume control issues for the artist, and troubleshoot more quickly.
  • With Wireless Workbench and the AD600 Spectrum Manager, engineers can address technical issues, monitor the RF spectrum, and maintain backup frequencies, ensuring smooth performance from start to finish.

The Axient Digital PSM wireless in-ear monitoring system will be available in 2025.
