The kineticFIELD had more than 270 x PK audio products providing sound coverage for more than 120,000 people.
For the fourth year in a row, PK Sound, a high tech sound system manufacturer from Calgary AB, Canada - was in charge of providing the right sound for the kineticFIELD main stage at the well-known Electric Daisy Carnival event, which took place last February 23rd and 24th at the Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez racetrack in Mexico City.
This was the 6th edition of EDC Mexico, produced by Insomniac and local OCESA, gathering highlighted DJs from the international and domestic scene on different stages, representing the union between technology and nature. Various art pieces and different performers of all kinds were present throughout a huge playground too, mixing amazing stage sets, pyro, visual effects, high level lighting and remarkable sound.
Names from the dance music scene like Alesso, Alan Walker, Loud Luxury, Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike and Angemi were just a few of the many who played their tracks on the kineticFIELD, reaching up to 120,000 people over both days.
With such a large quantity of people and area to be covered, producers decided to trust once again in the audio solution that had been used in the past and worked perfectly well providing the desired results: audio clarity, high SPL and excellent coverage. All of that was achieved by using a combination of PK Sound’s line array systems, subwoofers and software.
The star under the spot was the Trinity Advanced Robotic Line Array, the first three-dimensionally controlled sound system that is configured remotely, capable of focusing sound exactly where it is intended. This robotic line array provides a completely new set of tools that equips advanced users with unparalleled control over the vertical and horizontal directivity of the entire array. 90 x PK Trinity Large Format Robotic Line Arrays were used in total, together with 48 x PK VX-10 Compact Line Arrays and 8 x PK VX-12 Line Arrays.
108 x PK CX-800 Dual 18’ Subwoofers, 10 x PK Gravity 218 Dual 18” Subwoofers and 8 x PK Gravity 30 Single 30” Subwoofers were in charge of the low end.
Specifically speaking on the setup, the main system onstage was comprised of four hangs of 14 x Trinity each. For covering the large racetrack area, four delay hangs of 8 x Trinity each were located at 300 ft from the main stage plus four far delay hangs of 12 x VX-10 each at 500 ft from the main stage. There was also one delay hang at the VIP area comprised of 8 x VX12.
Bringing such a large quantity of equipment to the city was not a simple task. As Rory Stewart, production operations manager and audio engineer at PK, who was there not only to run the show, but also to give support during pre- and post-production, explains: “We had speakers coming from Canada, San Francisco, Los Angeles and Miami”.
“Nevertheless, the result was flawless! We got the right sound just where we wanted and got the right coverage so every person, from the front to the back, could hear performances with the same sound quality and precision,” he highlights.
All control and processing was done using PK’s Kontrol loudspeaker management software and a Digico SD9 sound desk.
