South African company AV Company, a specialist in full technical production services and audiovisual design, is making the most of its latest investments in Robe moving lights, adding ESPRITES and more LEDBeam 350 units to its rental inventory.
Headquartered in Durban, with branches in Johannesburg and Cape Town, AV Company is run by Craig Browning, his son Keagan and Warren Loots. The company provides complete event production services, including lighting, sound, LED screens, staging, structures, rigging and power supply. Approximately 70% of its business comes from corporate events, while the remaining 30% focuses on live shows, concerts and music productions.
To cover this wide variety of projects, Craig Browning looks for reliable, versatile lighting solutions capable of adapting to multiple applications.
The ESPRITE units are powerful all-round luminaires with highly accurate shutters — essential for conference work — and a wide range of effects, says Craig, adding that both he and his lighting team are delighted with the ESPRITES and the new LEDBeam 350 units.
The first eight ESPRITE units were supplied by DWR, Robe's distributor for Southern Africa, in early 2025. Their excellent performance led the company to acquire four additional units earlier this year, together with 16 LEDBeam 350s, bringing the total number of these luminaires to 32 units.
All the equipment is distributed among the company's three branches according to the needs of each project.
The ESPRITES were recently used at the South African Medical Association (SAMA) Health Summit, held at the Southern Sun Elangeni & Maharani hotel in Durban, where they stood out for their high brightness and striking gobo effects.
They later formed part of the production for Elephant in the Room, the national tour by singer-songwriter Lloyiso, during his performance at Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban. The lighting design, created by Keegan Adams, included 16 ESPRITES, 36 LEDBeam 350s, 24 LEDBeam 150s, 12 Pointes, 16 and 12 LEDWash 600s, as well as other luminaires. For this event, AV Company also supplied an L-Acoustics sound system.
The LEDBeam 350 units have become one of the most versatile luminaires in the company's inventory.
They are perfect for most of our work. They deliver excellent beams, the zoom makes it possible to achieve a highly effective wash, and they also offer many possibilities for creating effects. In addition, they are compact, easy to handle and provide an excellent return on investment, explains Craig.
For the many corporate events handled by AV Company, compact, low-power luminaires are often required. As a result, four or six LEDBeam units can be connected to a single electrical circuit and completely transform a space without causing any power issues.
Craig also highlights that having professional Robe luminaires gives the company a competitive advantage, not only because of the visual quality they bring to events, but also because of their durability and the continuous development of the products based on user needs.
AV Company currently has more than 80 Robe moving lights. The company's first purchases were ColorSpot 575s, LEDWash 300s, 300E Spots and later Pointes, units acquired more than ten years ago that, thanks to their robustness and reliability, have delivered an excellent return on investment.
