Telluride vibrates with Meyer Sound’s cinematic fidelity

Each Labor Day weekend, the mountain town of Telluride, Colorado becomes the global capital of cinema. Filmmakers, critics, and audiences gather for four days of complete immersion—watching, discussing, and celebrating movies that often go on to shape the awards season and drive cultural conversation.

For the 25th year, Meyer Sound returned as Signature Sponsor and Cinema Sound Partner, providing advanced cinema sound systems for the festival’s most prominent venues.

The 52nd edition of the festival showcased more than 60 feature films and short programs, including the world premieres of highly anticipated titles such as Hamnet from Chloé Zhao; Springsteen: Deliver Me From Nowhere, starring Jeremy Allen White; Jay Kelly by Noah Baumbach; Bugonia by Yorgos Lanthimos; and Ghost Elephants, the latest documentary from Werner Herzog. All were presented with Meyer Sound cinema systems, ensuring sonic precision that honors the creative intent behind every mix.

At Meyer Sound, our goal is to deliver cinema sound that reproduces the filmmaker’s vision exactly as it was created. Film is a sophisticated art form, and the audience deserves to hear every nuance as it was intended. That’s especially important at Telluride, where the people in the room are often the very people behind these works—from directors, to producers, to sound designers. It’s an environment that respects the craft, and sound plays a vital role in that, says Mark Mayfield, Director of Cinema Marketing.

This year, Meyer Sound systems once again supported the festival’s two largest purpose-built venues: the 650-seat Werner Herzog Theatre and the 500-seat Galaxy Theatre. Both are constructed from non-traditional spaces—a hockey rink and a school gym, respectively—transformed into world-class screening rooms with Meyer Sound cinema technologies.

The Herzog Theatre features a 7.1 system anchored by Acheron® LCR screen channel loudspeakers, paired with Acheron LF low-frequency loudspeakers, along with 22 HMS-12™ cinema surround speakers and 10 X-800C™ high-power cinema subwoofers. The system is driven by three Galileo® 616 processors.

The Galaxy Theatre is outfitted with Acheron LCR screen channel loudspeakers, 16 HMS-12 cinema surround speakers, nine X-800C high-power cinema subwoofers, and two Galileo GALAXY 816 network platforms. A supplementary Meyer Sound reinforcement system, centered around UPQ™ full-size loudspeakers and 750-LFC™ low-frequency control elements, ensures consistent audio performance for panels and discussions.

Telluride is built on a singular idea: let the films speak for themselves. In a festival free of competition, studio fanfare, or red carpets, that ethos informs every aspect of the experience, including sound.

For a quarter century, Meyer Sound has helped us transform unconventional spaces into unforgettable cinematic experiences. Their commitment to sonic clarity and artistic fidelity is rooted not just in technical excellence but in a deep respect for the work—and for the artists who trust us to present it, says Julie Huntsinger, Director of the Telluride Film Festival.
