The content, inspired by the Christmas holidays and popular children's books, was projected onto the mansion's French Renaissance-style facade for attendees to enjoy as part of the experience at Waddesdon.
Yes Events has been working with the National Trust at Waddesdon Manor for several years, and had explored the idea of projecting onto the building before, but this year everything came together to bring it to life. It really helped to create a Christmas storytelling event, and enhanced the experience and atmosphere. The projectors have been great. We loved the colors, the balance is great and the building looks very vibrant. It was great to see 'wow' moments being created, with many smiling faces among the audience and people taking photos, says Stuart Burdett, video sales director at AC Entertainment Technologies.
Waddesdon Manor allowed visitors to admire the grand interior rooms of the estate, enjoy the varied festive gastronomic offerings, walk the outdoor light trail, and contemplate the outdoor mapping experience. The theme of the last season, Once Upon a Time, is inspired by iconic children's books like Alice in Wonderland, The Snow Queen, and Peter Pan.
The mansion's impressive facade presents many uneven surfaces, which posed a challenge for installation and content. A laser scanner was incorporated into the multimedia software, which allowed the team to visualize where to place the projector towers before on-site assembly. The team also had to consider the possibility of fog blocking the projection, so they made sure the projectors were not placed too far from the building.
Yes Events first bought Christie projectors five years ago. They enjoyed having the H Series in their kit, and now, the HS Series allows them to have greater brightness and switch to the benefits of laser technology, while keeping the same set of lenses and accessories. It was a natural fit to continue with Christie, adds Burdett.
The team spent a week on-site for the setup and was able to align the projectors (used in vertical mode) in a few afternoons.
