The dawn of a new era for the Malaysian media industry has emerged with the recent opening of Angkasapuri Mediacity in Bukit Putra, Kuala Lumpur. The eighteen-story building is the new headquarters of Radio Television Malaysia (RTM) and the Ministry of Information of Malaysia.
Launched in October of last year, the building also houses within its sixty thousand square meters space a music recording studio, various television broadcast studios and auditoriums, and an outdoor plaza, all fully equipped with modern digital equipment and transmission systems.
As part of the 860 million RM project, its Seri Angkasa Auditorium has been equipped with an L-Acoustics Kara system to ensure a modern live audio solution that will cater to its music programming, orchestra concerts, and television variety shows.

Headed by Sean Iskhandar of Motifv8 Projects, the installation was a close collaboration with Stagetec Asia and VME, who have been working with RTM for many years. Iskhandar has been involved in several L-Acoustics K series rental and installation projects since 2012, including the proposed design for a system based on L-Acoustics Kiva II in the Perdana Auditorium of the former RTM building in the same Bukit Putra area.
Iskhandar led the Motifv8 team to work with VME system integrators on the state-of-the-art broadcast auditorium through a bidding process. Knowing that RTM's technical and sound engineers were already familiar with the type of operation, performance, and distinctive sonic qualities that an L-Acoustics system can offer, he proposed a design based on Kara.

Motifv8 worked with Alvin Koh, Director of Application Projects for L-Acoustics in APAC, to propose a design using L-Acoustics' 3D Soundvision modeling software. The initial proposal included a central suspension of six L-Acoustics KS28 subwoofers; however, it quickly became clear that the suspension would appear in the frame of certain broadcast camera angles. So, Iskhandar and Koh revisited the design and proposed splitting the central suspension into two. This proposal was accepted, and Motifv8 built a custom rigging bar for the two groups of three subwoofers suspended in cardioid mode. An LCR system was chosen, with two L-Acoustics A15 boxes serving as center fill, while the main L/R system consists of 12 Karai per side. An L-Acoustics X8 per side provides side fill. Eight LA4X amplified controllers power the entire system.
The RTM team is very satisfied with the new installation. Now their engineers have a system that provides consistent coverage and sound pressure levels throughout the auditorium with flexibility that caters to their range of broadcast performance content, says Iskhandar.
In line with RTM's goals to be a media hub for the region, the state-of-the-art Angkasapuri Mediacity can now support the production of creative digital media content with modern technological infrastructure.
