Sennheiser brings back the legendary MD 9235 microphone capsule

The MD 9235 microphone capsule for wireless handheld microphones has long been a favourite among many sound engineers and artists thanks to its ability to cut through high on-stage sound levels and reject crosstalk, even in front of the PA system.

When this cardioid capsule was discontinued a few years ago, some touring professionals remained loyal to the 9235’s clear and detailed sound and its excellent rejection, repeatedly asking Sennheiser to bring it back. Now, the company announces the return of the legendary MD 9235 wireless capsule.

When the MM 435 and MM 445 capsules, with higher rejection, replaced the MD 9235 in 2020, they quickly built their own following. However, even years after it had been discontinued, we continued to receive enquiries from professionals asking about the MD 9235. So we met with our development and production engineers to analyse how we could bring it back. After carrying out extensive testing with several units together with touring sound engineers, they all agreed how pleased they were to have the MD 9235 available again, explains product manager Sebastian Schmitz.

Thanks to this new production run, the MD 9235 microphone capsule is once again part of the Sennheiser portfolio.

As before, the MD 9235 has been designed to reproduce vocals with precision and power, rejecting ambient noise from the sides and rear, making it the perfect choice for applications where the performer moves dynamically and often in front of the PA system.

Thanks to its lightweight aluminium-copper coil, which moves faster than conventional coils, the capsule delivers an extraordinary level of detail and transparency even in the most demanding environments.

The MD 9235 has a recommended retail price (MSRP) of €599 and includes a pouch and five replacement foam inlays.
