d&b audiotechnik has launched vCore, a software-based processing engine for Soundscape that allows users to prepare and listen to immersive mixes using headphones, without the need for dedicated hardware or an installed loudspeaker system.
vCore is a standalone software processing engine for Soundscape, d&b's immersive audio solution, and is available free of charge. It is designed to simplify pre-production without the need for a physical processing engine: using d&b's Create.Control software and headphones, users can create and listen to their projects through binaural outputs that deliver realistic spatial audio.
With vCore, the d&b Soundscape ecosystem gains a new tool that allows audio professionals to plan and audition their projects without needing a physical Soundscape processing engine or a loudspeaker system. These days, we work from anywhere: in our living rooms, in a café or on the tour bus. All you need is the latest version of Create.Control and a pair of headphones, explains Robb Allan, Director of Product Management for d&b Soundscape at d&b audiotechnik.
What changes in pre-production
Mixing engineers and sound designers can now design and prepare shows using d&b Soundscape without having the system set up. vCore is integrated into Create.Control v.4 and forms part of a workflow that allows users to prepare and audition binaural mixes directly from their usual DAW, providing a realistic listening experience long before arriving at the venue.
"Immersive experiences are already everywhere, and we want Soundscape to be easy to use, freely accessible and fun", adds Allan.
vCore supports up to 64 inputs and provides two-channel binaural playback that can be monitored through headphones or streamed live, for example during webinars and broadcasts. It is compatible with macOS and Windows and can be downloaded from www.dbaudio.com/vcore. It includes the new integrated d&b AudioBridge, which allows audio to be routed directly from the DAW to vCore.
