PLASA has launched a new Carbon Literacy course designed specifically for professionals working in the entertainment technology industry.
Designed to make climate training practical and applicable, the course will help participants understand climate change, the carbon impact associated with everyday decisions, and the steps they can take to reduce emissions in their work, organisations and everyday lives.
As demand for more sustainable practices continues to grow across productions, events, venues and supply chains, many individuals and businesses find it difficult to know where to begin.
PLASA's course has been developed around the real-world challenges and opportunities facing the entertainment technology community, helping participants move beyond broad sustainability goals to identify practical actions tailored to their professional roles.
The training will be delivered online and includes a 30-minute self-study module, followed by two interactive two-hour sessions led by an instructor.
Participants will then complete an individual assessment. PLASA will deliver the training and manage the assessment process, while the Carbon Literate certification will be independently assessed and awarded by The Carbon Literacy Project to participants who successfully meet its requirements.
Monthly cohorts will run between July and October 2026, with a maximum of 12 participants per session. This small-group format will enable attendees to exchange experiences and learn alongside professionals from across the industry.
More and more professionals across our industry recognise the need to reduce their environmental impact, but understanding how to turn that ambition into practical action can be challenging. We have developed this course to make the concept of Carbon Literacy directly relevant to entertainment technology professionals. It is not simply about understanding climate change; it is about giving people the knowledge, confidence and motivation to make better-informed decisions within their own roles and organisations. By bringing professionals together in small, interactive groups, we also hope to encourage shared learning and help build greater momentum for meaningful change across the industry, explains Phoebe Currie, PLASA's Sustainability Consultant.
The Carbon Literacy Project defines Carbon Literacy as an awareness of the carbon costs and impacts of everyday activities, together with the ability and motivation to reduce emissions on an individual, community and organisational basis.
The course is available to PLASA members for £89 plus VAT per participant, while the non-member price is £119 plus VAT.
Places are now available for cohorts running between July and October 2026, with a limit of 12 participants per group.
