"Fans have been left speechless. This is the change that John and Helen Meyer have achieved. They are creating a sound experience that will forever change concerts.", said Greg Price, sound engineer for Metallica.
This fall, rock titans Metallica arrived in North America with the latest leg of their impressive M72 World Tour, now enhanced by the power and precision of Meyer Sound's 2100-LFC low-frequency control elements.

The tour, which began in April 2023, stops for two nights in each city, featuring two sets on weekends with no repeats. Fans enjoy a stereo mix in every seat, true to 40 years of studio recordings, explains Greg Price, sound engineer for Metallica. "Our goal was to bring that intimate environment to a stadium".
Mounted on a central stage, the tour features an astonishing 522 Meyer Sound speakers, including 288 large-format PANTHER line array speakers, 96 2100-LFC low-frequency control elements, 48 VLFC very-low-frequency elements, 16 1100-LFC low-frequency elements, 22 compact ULTRA-X40 speakers, and 8 UPQ-D2 large-format speakers.

The equipment, provided by Clair Global, is arranged in three concentric rings. Arrays in the outer ring are suspended from eight towers, with two PANTHER arrays on each. Each tower has six VLFC elements; the 2100-LFC and 1100-LFC elements provide sub-bass support from the ground. An internal system includes eight hanging arrays of PANTHER speakers. The "Snake Pit" fan section in the center of the stage is covered by UPQ-D2 speakers facing inward, while the outer side of the ring employs 22 compact ULTRA-X40 speakers as front fill. Stage monitors include 36 MJF-210 and 8 MJF-212A. The system is controlled by 35 Galileo GALAXY network platforms. The equipment replaced 96 1100-LFC elements with 96 2100-LFC elements when the tour returned to the U.S. in August.

I was the catalyst to make the switch to the 2100-LFC. The results of the PANTHER arrays have been stunning from the moment we deployed them, so it wasn’t a huge leap to think we could seriously improve the low frequencies as well," says Dan Braun, creative director for Metallica.
The M72 tour will continue through the spring and summer of 2025, with 21 dates in North America.
