The Poland-based sound provider, Gigant Sound/Letus, was once again chosen to handle the sound for the National Festival of Polish Song in Opole, one of the country's most prestigious musical events.
Together with the Sopot Festival, it is one of the two most important cultural events in Poland, celebrating the achievements of Polish composers and performers over the past year.
The festival takes place in the legendary Millennium Amphitheater, an iconic venue where every Polish artist aspires to perform. This site has been home to the Polish Song Festival since 1963, making it one of the oldest festivals in Europe and the largest popular music event in Poland.
Over the decades, it has witnessed the rise of numerous renowned Polish artists from various generations and genres, such as Maryla Rodowicz, Marek Grechuta, Zbigniew Wodecki, and Justyna Steczkowska. The festival not only marks the beginning of summer with popular Polish classics but also honors new talents with the Anna Jantar Award for Best Debut and the Karol Musioł Award for Best First Performance.
For this year's event, Gigant deployed a sound reinforcement system that included a large-format line array at the FOH, backed by mid-range enclosures and direct-radiating subwoofer units. Such configurations allow for even sound dispersion in large open venues, addressing the acoustic challenges of the space and ensuring that sound reaches every corner of the auditorium.
The festival's status as a cultural benchmark presents significant technical challenges, particularly in ensuring optimal sound quality throughout the extensive outdoor venue.
Gigant Sound/Letus, a prominent name in Poland's live sound industry, rose to the occasion with an exceptional audio experience that was widely praised within the live production community. This year's setup ensured remarkable sound clarity, consistent coverage, and precision, further enhancing Gigant's reputation for excellence.
The entire system was managed using a state-of-the-art processor with FPGA architecture, a versatile and powerful solution that has gained popularity in large productions for its ability to handle complex audio configurations, integrating equipment from multiple brands. The front-of-house mixing system utilized large-format digital consoles optimized for live productions, with advanced features for mixing lead vocals and orchestral elements, while secondary performances were managed by more compact consoles suitable for controlling multiple sound sources with high precision.
Jerzy Taborowski, CEO of Gigant Sound/Letus, shared his impressions of the project: Reflecting on our work at the festival, I was particularly impressed by the smoothness of the sound system, with a 'hi-fi' tonal quality similar to that of studio monitors, offering incredibly uniform coverage and seamless transitions between arrangements. Together with the additional enclosures and subwoofers, we achieved exceptional clarity and precision in all performances. The positive feedback from the festival organizers and technical teams was especially rewarding, given the cultural importance of the Opole Festival.
