Ukraine’s VYRII Festival delivers hope and live sound excellence with L-Acoustics

Ukraine’s inaugural VYRII Festival took place in August 2025, blending Ukrainian culture and mythology with electronic and traditional music, theatre and visual arts. Hailed as the “Burning Man of Ukraine”, the event embraced ethnofuturism as its guiding theme and encouraged total freedom of expression.

Audiences of all ages enjoyed a diverse programme featuring internationally renowned artists such as Mercury Prize winner Benjamin Clementine, alongside Ukrainian icons Jamala and DakhaBrakha. For those in attendance, this carefully curated and expressive festival provided a valuable respite from the challenges imposed by the ongoing war.

Delivering exceptional audio quality at VYRII required high-end equipment and solid technical expertise. Franz Audio, one of Ukraine’s leading technical production companies, has collaborated with the VYRII team for more than five years and was the natural choice to supply the festival’s sound infrastructure.

K3, Kara and V-DOSC selected to meet the festival brief

Franz Audio’s mission was to provide even sound coverage across the site, ensuring a comfortable experience for attendees whether they were listening to the powerful low-end of electronic acts or the acoustic nuance of traditional performances. As the festival featured two stages operating simultaneously, it was also essential to avoid interference, allowing audiences to move from one stage to the other without sound bleed.

The final configuration depended on equipment availability. K3 and Kara were ideally suited to the design and deployment of the electronic stage, while a legacy V-DOSC system was sourced for the main stage. Much of Ukraine’s audio inventory has been destroyed by the war or moved abroad for protection. Adapting to the available resources ensured that VYRII was able to go ahead without disruption.

Two stages, two solutions

Franz Audio used Soundvision to model each stage, predict coverage patterns and optimise loudspeaker placement, before moving to LA Network Manager for final tuning.

Soundvision greatly simplified the process. It allowed us to accurately simulate system coverage and ensure we met our primary objective: guaranteeing consistent sound distribution, comments Yurii Danyliuk, Director of Franz Audio.

The electronic stage featured three hangs: two clusters of six K3 over three Kara each, plus an out-fill hang of four additional Kara. Six Kiva were used for front-fill. Paired with SB18 and KS28 subwoofers, this configuration delivered the precise imaging and powerful low-end required for electronic music, while maintaining listener comfort. On the main stage, two hangs of 11 V-DOSC modules were deployed, amplified by LA8 controllers.

The K3 system was already familiar territory for the Franz Audio team, having been part of their inventory for a year and successfully deployed on numerous projects, while V-DOSC was new to them. “Our familiarity with L-Acoustics products, the team’s extensive training and the preparatory work carried out in Soundvision made the transition to V-DOSC as smooth as possible”, says Danyliuk. Although considered a classic series, V-DOSC proved to be exactly what the festival needed: a reliable, versatile and powerful system with excellent performance in large outdoor venues.

V-DOSC is a legendary, time-tested solution that once again proved its ‘immortality’ under extraordinary circumstances. It was incredible to see how well it performed and how seamlessly it integrated with K3 and Kara, he adds.

The K3/Kara system used the AES67 network audio protocol to deliver high-quality signal transmission, flexible system configuration and precise synchronisation via the PTPv2 protocol. Audio, video and lighting elements were integrated into a unified control system—critical for the electronic stage, where music is tightly synchronised with visual content.

The installation was smooth and straightforward, and the team was able to complete the setup on schedule despite challenges posed by poor weather and air raid alerts.

Performance under pressure

Franz Audio received highly positive feedback from FOH engineers and technical specialists who worked with the system during the festival, as well as from audiences and artists.

Many of VYRII’s artists not only expressed their appreciation for the team, but also highlighted the crystal-clear sound, which enabled them to deliver outstanding performances and fully connect with the audience.

We have no doubt that our choice of sound system had a decisive impact on the success of the event. We are extremely satisfied with the festival’s technical implementation—even now, looking back, we wouldn’t change a thing. Achieving this level of professionalism and success during an ongoing war makes the project even more meaningful for the team, concludes Danyliuk.
