The Friedrichskoog Seal Sanctuary, located on the North Sea coast of northern Germany, has been providing refuge for abandoned and sick seals since its establishment in 1985. To enhance the visitor experience and ensure effective communication across its vast facilities, they partnered with DAS Audio.
Together, they tackled the intricate audio demands of the sanctuary's indoor and outdoor areas, which operate 365 days a year.
DAS Audio's Integral series became the central component of the audio system installed at the sanctuary, complemented by rugged systems designed to withstand the challenging coastal environment while delivering top-notch audio performance.
The Challenge
The Friedrichskoog Seal Sanctuary faced the daunting task of equipping its facilities with an audio solution capable of withstanding the harsh North Sea climate, characterized by strong winds, exposure to saltwater, and abrupt weather changes.
The requirement extended beyond durability; the solution had to ensure perfect audio distribution across various zones, both indoors and outdoors, and support analog and DANTE signal transmissions. Additionally, the audio solution needed to be user-friendly and adaptable to the sanctuary staff's needs.
The Solution
DAS Audio embraced the challenge by implementing a meticulously designed audio solution that leveraged the capabilities of its Integral series. The Integral series, with its advanced features, provided the perfect foundation for this demanding task.
It allowed for the harmonious coordination of different speaker models in various zones, both indoors and outdoors, and adapted to both analog and DANTE signal transmission protocols. This versatility enabled the creation of a unified audio ecosystem that spanned the entire sanctuary, ensuring consistent audio quality and clarity.
In addition, the Integral series facilitated control through touch panels, simplifying audio management for sanctuary staff. The deployment of components such as the Integral WP-3 touch panel, the Integral MC-02 Dante desktop microphone, and the Integral AS-2 audio source ensured that staff could effectively manage the audio environment, adjust settings, and make announcements with ease.
In indoor spaces, a customized setup was implemented with ARCO-24-T models enhancing the entrance and retail areas. Meanwhile, the exhibition space benefited from OVI-12 models installed in the ceiling, providing immersive audio experiences for visitors. Outdoors, rugged Quantum Q-23-T and Q-43-T models, designed to meet IP66 standards, were installed to ensure clear announcements in outdoor spaces. Even in the spectator area where animal feeding takes place, a significant sound improvement was achieved with WR-9606-TDX models. Given the harsh coastal conditions, the Quantum and WR series with fiberglass coating stood out as ideal choices.
