RTVE trusts in Fujinon, the optical technology by Fujifilm, to upgrade the equipment used to film Radio 3 concerts. With the goal of migrating to HD and enhancing the image quality to a more cinematic finish, the public broadcaster has acquired two Fujinon lenses with Super 35mm sensors and the new DUVO14-100.
Until now, Radio 3 concerts have been recorded using an SD mobile unit with equipment that has been in use for many years. Updating the recording format to high definition (HD) was necessary to improve the quality of these concerts and meet the requirement to produce RTVE’s programs in HD. Additionally, we wanted to shift the aesthetic towards a more cinematic look, with greater background blur or shallower depth of field and cinema-like color tones, taking advantage of the vibrant lighting colors used in these recordings, which differ from those used in RTVE’s in-studio programs, explained the technical department at the public broadcaster.
To meet its goals, RTVE has taken a step forward by investing in the innovative DUVO14-100 broadcast-cinema lens for crane shots. This makes the public broadcaster a pioneer in Spain in adopting this technology for such an iconic program as the Radio 3 concerts.
This wide-angle lens offers a 7.1x zoom, covering from 14 to 100 mm, a focal range often used in the studio. Its shallow depth of field allows for a cinematic expression of the image, with a pleasing bokeh effect. Additionally, it has a compact, lightweight design with a length of 266.9 mm and a weight of 2.65 kg.

Additionally, RTVE has awarded the Fujinon XK6x20 model for shots from pedestals. This new lightweight 4K digital cinema zoom lens offers high optical performance, is compatible with S35 large-sensor cameras, covers a broad focal range from 20 mm to 120 mm, and maintains a T3.5 brightness throughout the zoom range.
This lens offers easy operation without a T-stop drop-off, allowing for versatile scene recording. It is also lightweight (weighing only 2.9 kg, or 2.4 kg without the electric zoom and focus drive unit) and includes a handle, a popular tool across various production settings.
The Fujinon XK6x20 model also incorporates a back focus adjustment mechanism, commonly used in broadcast lenses to optimize camera mounting. It includes a 0.8 mm gear pitch for compatibility with standard cinematic accessories and a 9-blade iris mechanism for a rounded iris, allowing for natural bokeh in the images. Additionally, it is equipped with a macro function, enabling close-up shots from distances as short as 40 cm (11 cm from the front lens element).

Additionally, Fujifilm has provided RTVE with demo units of the new DUVO 24-300 lenses to exchange with the acquired television zoom lenses, allowing them to evaluate and consider them for future tenders.
