IP65-rated lighting for the REBELLiON Outdoor electronic music festival

The REBELLiON Outdoor festival, held at Almeerderstrand, Almere, Netherlands, marked a new milestone in the electronic music scene by taking the event outdoors for the first time after nearly a decade of successful indoor events.

Thousands of attendees enjoyed performances across five stages, with the lighting and technical design for the four largest stages handled by the production company Spectrum AV.

The main challenge for the production was managing an open-air environment for the main stage, leading to the installation of IP65-rated luminaires, suitable for withstanding the elements, and the incorporation of high-power LED technology to ensure a visually stunning spectacle regardless of weather conditions. This stage featured moving head LED fixtures with RGBW color mixing mounted on motorized zoom systems, allowing for both aerial beam effects and wide color washes over the audience. These fixtures were key for versatility in creating large-scale visual effects with precise control of variable beam angles.

Additionally, the stage featured high-power wash lights with independent zone control, enabling a wide range of color effects, as well as strobe and blinder functions, essential for synchronizing lighting with the most intense moments of the music set. These LED devices not only provided optimal performance in terms of brightness and control but were also selected for their energy efficiency and durability under prolonged use conditions.

At the second stage, located under a large tent, specialized beam effect moving heads were used to generate concentrated and powerful beams, which were crucial for adapting to the high-energy and BPM style of the event. These fixtures were complemented by CMY color mixing systems, allowing for quick color changes and great versatility in visual effects, while maintaining stability and precision in the devices' movements.

The third stage, Velocity Village, was also covered by a temporary structure, allowing for the use of non-IP65-rated fixtures. Wash and beam lights were employed to create aerial and stage lighting effects, ensuring uniform illumination of both the set and the performers.

The fourth stage, set outdoors and themed around a treasure chest, stood out for its impressive decoration, which was illuminated with static LED panel systems and compact projectors that highlighted the architectural details of the structure. Aerial effects on this stage were generated by fixtures with an extremely narrow beam angle, ideal for large outdoor venues where a strong, concentrated beam of light is required.

In summary, the technical production of the REBELLiON Outdoor festival relied on the use of advanced LED luminaires, IP65-rated for outdoor use, and high-power moving heads, selected for their ability to create a wide variety of visual effects.

The choice of technical equipment focused not only on durability and weather resistance but also on its ability to deliver exceptional visual performance that complemented the energy of the event.
