J. Alvarez’s music found its perfect visual counterpart in lighting during his performance at Ushuaïa Ibiza. Featuring a lighting design by Will Rivera Carrasquillo and more than 150 CHAUVET Professional fixtures, the concert delivered a powerful visual production that amplified the energy of the Luxury tour.
Featuring many of the Puerto Rican reggaeton icon’s unforgettable hits, including Junto al Amanecer and La Pregunta, along with the expected crowd singalongs, the concert served as a vivid reminder of why the artist has remained one of the most influential figures in Latin music over the past 15 years.
However, the show was much more than a trip down memory lane. Alongside the classics, it featured a strong selection of newer songs that, like their predecessors, were performed with boundless energy and intensity. Complementing this dynamic musical journey note by note was an impressive lighting design created by Will Rivera Carrasquillo.
The fusion of music and lighting was on full display when J. Alvarez brought his tour to Ushuaïa Ibiza this summer for the I Love Reggaeton Festival. Throughout Carrasquillo’s dynamic light show, a stream of bold, vibrant colors flowed seamlessly with the music.
The color contrasts in this show were inspired by the name of the tour, Luxury. We're talking about luxury, gold, diamonds, and intense colors like amber and white. We used a lot of bold colors such as reds, blues, and magentas, which are perfect for creating that impactful atmosphere while highlighting the details of the biggest hits and the intensity of the transitions. Spotlights, meanwhile, were used to emphasize positions, explained Carrasquillo.
To bring this visual concept to life, Carrasquillo relied on more than 100 Color STRIKE M fixtures, along with COLORado PXL Curve 12 and COLORado PXL Bar 12 units. Completing the design, the rig incorporated 40 STRIKE Array 4 fixtures used as blinders, whose intense white light contrasted beautifully with the show's rich color palette. All fixtures were from CHAUVET Professional and supplied by Fluge.
Installed on finger trusses spanning almost the entire width of the stage, the Color STRIKE M fixtures filled the performance space with rich, vibrant color. The use of monochromatic palettes on J. Alvarez and his band heightened the show's visual impact while accentuating the effect of each color transition throughout the performance.
The PXL battens were installed in an arch framing the front of the stage, while the STRIKE Array 4 fixtures were positioned on the upper level of the truss structure. By activating these two groups of fixtures at different moments, Carrasquillo was able to create a variety of stage looks throughout the concert, keeping the visual presentation fresh while adapting the lighting to the mood of each song.
Reflecting on the Ibiza performance, Carrasquillo thanked J. Alvarez, his colleague Robert Santiago, and the entire team for "giving me these amazing toys to play with". He made the most of them, creating a lighting design that elevated an already spectacular show into an even more memorable experience.
