Celestion breaks the traditional trade-off between directivity and frequency response

At InfoComm 2026, Celestion is showcasing its new PXT6000 rectangular exit compression driver. The product incorporates the company’s groundbreaking Planar eXit Technology™ (PXT), a new approach to high-frequency wave shaping.

Developed using advanced mathematical modelling, this unique and patented design methodology redefines the fundamental architecture of conventional wave shapers. Historically, designers have been forced to make trade-offs when addressing acoustic limitations, having to choose between a solution that offers controlled directivity but a suboptimal frequency response, or a smooth frequency response with limited directivity control.

The PXT6000 eliminates this compromise by delivering the best of both worlds. Thanks to a highly coherent, single-parameter (1P) rectangular wavefront generated by Celestion’s patented deep-drawn, ultra-low-noise titanium diaphragm, the PXT6000 simultaneously provides a smooth frequency response and excellent directivity control.

 

Unrivalled acoustic performance

The PXT6000 delivers a more natural sound by optimising the interface between the driver and the wave shaper, minimising throat resonances that typically affect the response of conventional designs.

In addition, its highly coherent wavefront avoids power loss and vertical interference lobes when deployed in line array configurations, delivering greater output efficiency and improved intelligibility. An optimised internal flare rate further enhances driver loading, resulting in improved low-frequency response.

Ultra-compact design and premium features

In addition to its acoustic advantages, the PXT6000 features an ultra-compact design based on a cast aluminium wave shaper. Its shorter structure, combined with a narrower exit (165 mm x 20 mm), improves acoustic loading to achieve more precise directivity and a smoother off-axis response.

Despite its compact size, the PXT6000 delivers outstanding performance. Equipped with a lightweight neodymium magnet assembly and a 3-inch (75 mm) copper clad aluminium edgewound voice coil, the driver provides 240 W continuous power handling (120 W nominal) and an impedance of 8 Ω.

It also faithfully reproduces a wide frequency range, from 500 Hz to 20,000 Hz, ensuring consistent performance in high-end professional line array sound reinforcement systems.
