d&b takes a step towards AV interoperability by integrating the MVR standard into ArrayCalc

The new MVR Exchange feature in the latest ArrayCalc beta lets users import, export and update venue and loudspeaker system data using the open MVR (My Virtual Rig) standard, so audio, lighting and stage design teams can work on the same project from the planning stage.

What is MVR?

MVR is an open DIN standard developed by Vectorworks, MA Lighting International and ROBE Lighting, and used by leading CAD, lighting and visualisation platforms. It enables project information to be exchanged across disciplines, regardless of brand, including venue geometry, stage design, lighting and now loudspeaker system data.

What does it solve?

With MVR Exchange, ArrayCalc users can import venue models from external applications, export sound system designs into the wider production workflow and update data as the design evolves. This reduces the need to recreate models and transfer data manually, resulting in more accurate system designs and improved coordination between departments.

Loudspeaker data can also be visualised and coordinated within CAD environments for tasks such as sightline verification, clash detection and project documentation.

MVR Exchange was developed to give our users more time to focus on sound system design and less time transferring information between software platforms. Rather than developing a proprietary plug-in for a single application, we have implemented support for an open standard directly into ArrayCalc. This allows venue and loudspeaker system data to become part of a shared production workflow, making it easier to exchange updates, reduce duplicated work and coordinate sound system designs with other disciplines more efficiently, explains Florian Hahn, Software Product Manager at d&b audiotechnik.

MVR Exchange is available in the latest beta version of ArrayCalc, allowing users to test the new workflow in their own projects and provide feedback to help shape the future development of MVR.
