DSS Munich turns 20: two decades shaping digital signage strategy

The Digital Signage Summit (DSS) is the leading strategic conference in the digital signage sector, driving exchange between senior executives, technology leaders, and brands investing in the next generation of connected experiences.

In 2026, DSS, organized by Integrated Systems Events and invidis consulting GmbH, adopts an even more international approach, reflecting its position as a leading global platform.

To mark this anniversary, the DSS 2026 programme will analyse the developments that have shaped the industry over the past 20 years and explore what will define the next decade in digital signage strategy.

From modest beginnings to the global stage

In 2006, invidis consulting created a platform to share industry knowledge, learn from leaders, and help the market adapt to change. This led to the launch of the Munich Digital Signage Conference at the Systems IT trade fair, with just 40 attendees, but a clear demand for practical strategy and applied insight.

invidis also brought its conference format to major AV trade shows and, in 2008, debuted at Integrated Systems Europe (ISE) under the name DiSCO. In 2009, the event became a standalone conference at the International Congress Centre Messe München (ICM) and, under the patronage of OVAB Digital (Out-of-Home Video Advertising Bureau), was renamed the OVAB Digital Signage Conference, Munich.

A year later, the conference moved to Munich Airport — its long-term home — then known as the Kempinski Airport Hotel. By 2014, attendance had reached 350 industry professionals, reflecting both the event’s growing influence and the accelerating pace of the market.

A major growth phase followed in 2015, when invidis and Integrated Systems Events formed a joint venture, with the acquisition of a majority stake in the series, strengthening its global reach and its connection with the ISE community.

Reaching 20 years is an extraordinary milestone for the Digital Signage Summit. What began as a small gathering of professionals has become the reference platform for strategy, innovation, and collaboration. DSS continues to connect the leaders shaping the future of digital signage worldwide, and this anniversary edition reflects both the evolution of the market and the opportunities ahead, says Mike Blackman, Managing Director of Integrated Systems Events.

The leading event connecting the industry

The Digital Signage Summit series has expanded its reach with satellite events such as DSS MENA in Dubai in 2025 and DSS events at InfoComm shows in North and Latin America, reinforcing its role as a key meeting point for the global digital signage and DOOH industry. During the pandemic in 2020, the event adapted to a virtual format with DSS The Show, broadcast live for eight hours to more than 2,500 participants.

Today, DSS brings together influential business leaders from around the world, alongside major brands as headline sponsors. Reflecting the evolution of the market, the programme includes a dedicated forum for CTOs and developers, offering a unique opportunity for technology providers to engage with both commercial and technical stakeholders in one place.

“DSS has always been about more than just digital signage. It is about strategy, connection, and driving real business outcomes”, says Florian Rotberg, Founder and CEO of invidis consulting GmbH. “Looking back, it is impressive to see how the industry has matured, and we are excited to bring together the brightest minds to explore the future of the sector”.DSS aniversario 5 HI

DSS 2026 – The anniversary edition

This May, the event returns with a strong and relevant programme, consolidating its 20-year legacy as a must-attend event for the digital signage business. This edition will focus on the concept of NextGen Signage, structured around nine key themes: managed signage, digital signage in retail and beyond, converged communications, operating systems and cybersecurity, sustainable signage, future-proofing, artificial intelligence, the future of CMS, and retail media.

Across two days of keynotes, panel discussions, and expert-led sessions, DSS 2026 will address the transformative forces impacting the sector, from geopolitics and artificial intelligence to climate change and market maturity.

The anniversary keynote, 20 Years on Screen: The Stories, the Shifts, the Future, will provide a retrospective view of the industry’s evolution, highlighting the key moments, technologies, and market dynamics that have defined the past two decades, as well as the challenges and opportunities ahead.

Networking will continue into the evening at Airbräu, in what promises to be one of the standout moments of the event, featuring 20th anniversary surprises and a celebratory atmosphere.

Decision-makers in digital signage projects worldwide are invited to participate. DSS offers the opportunity to connect with qualified buyers, industry influencers, and to hold strategic meetings in a results-driven environment.
