Canon has announced a series of upcoming firmware updates for seven of its professional camcorders and EOS Cinema cameras. These free updates, available for download starting December 2024, have been developed based on professional feedback.
The updates will bring additional features to the EOS R5 C, EOS C70, EOS C80, EOS C300 Mark III, EOS C400, EOS C500 Mark II, and XF605 cameras.
Frame.io Camera to Cloud Function for the EOS C80 and EOS C400
The EOS C80 and EOS C400 will be natively compatible with the Frame.io Camera to Cloud function from Adobe. This will allow cameras to upload proxy files directly via Wi-Fi or Ethernet to a Frame.io cloud project. This innovative feature enables post-production editing and color grading to begin immediately after recording, optimizing remote professional collaboration and workflows.
External 6K RAW 60P Recording Capabilities for the EOS C80
Other improvements for the EOS C80 include external 6K RAW recording capabilities at up to 60P. While the EOS C80 can record 6K RAW internally up to 30P, the new external HDMI RAW feature provides even greater flexibility when combined with compatible ATOMOS Ninja and Shogun devices.
New LP-E6P Battery Compatibility for the EOS R5 C
Upon its release, the powerful EOS R5 C allowed internal RAW 8K recording up to 30P and up to 60P when using an external power source. With the new firmware update, Canon's high-capacity LP-E6P batteries (released alongside the EOS R5 Mark II) will allow the EOS R5 C to record 8K 60P internally, without the need for an external power source.
Anamorphic 1.5x De-squeeze Compatibility for the EOS C400
Canon EOS Cinema cameras are compatible with de-squeeze functions for available 2x, 1.8x, and 1.3x anamorphic lenses. Given the growing range of 1.5x lenses from other manufacturers, the new firmware will enhance the EOS C400's de-squeeze compatibility with 1.5x lenses, allowing for effective monitoring at the recording site via the LCD monitor or external devices.
Following the firmware update, the all-in-one professional camcorder XF605 will also benefit from more sensitivity options for focus ring control and the ability to adjust the output volume with the joystick-type control on the audio status screen.
Other firmware updates include lens distortion correction, applied during playback on the EOS C70, and compatibility with the latest RF lenses for the EOS R5 C, EOS C70, EOS C80, and EOS C400.
