Point-to-point extenders over IP: the new generation was presented at IBC 2025

At IBC 2025, the new DNX 4K series from IHSE was presented, the company’s first point-to-point extender based on IP. The proposal marked a breakthrough within entry-level solutions for simple and direct installations, combining IHSE’s hardware engineering with the IP workflow expertise developed by kvm-tec.

A step forward in KVM over IP

The DNX 4K adopted the IP standard for point-to-point operations, allowing easier integration of workstations and individual sources without relying on traditional continuous Cat X or fiber cabling infrastructures.

This solution was especially aimed at small environments where simplicity, video quality, and cost-performance ratio are decisive.

Key technical features

During the show, IHSE showcased the main features of the DNX 4K series, including:

  • Support for ultra-high resolutions up to 4K60 and 5K60, with true color fidelity (RGB 4:4:4, 8 bits per channel).
  • Single Head and Dual Head operation, including the ability to send two 4K streams over a single cable.
  • Compact, fanless, and noiseless design, ideal for environments where silence is essential.
  • Compatibility with stereo audio, RS-232, and USB 2.0, facilitating integration with common peripherals.
  • Flexible transmission over Cat X, multimode, or singlemode fiber, with ranges of up to 10 km.
  • Direct point-to-point connection or easy integration into 10G IP networks, opening the door to more modern and scalable workflows.

Practical applications

IHSE presented the DNX 4K as the ideal solution for:

  • Separation of sources and workstations in small installations.
  • Scenarios where flexibility and video quality are essential.
  • Initial deployments of KVM over IP in a point-to-point format, where previously only more complex or costly options existed.

Conclusion

The demonstration at IBC 2025 confirmed that the KVM market is entering a new stage: point-to-point over IP, with equipment capable of combining high image quality, energy efficiency, and ease of integration. The IHSE DNX 4K series became an example of how this type of solution can meet the new demands of the audiovisual and broadcast sector.
