Internationaal Theatre Amsterdam (ITA) has upgraded its facilities with ETC’s Eos Apex lighting control system, supplied and supported by dealer Ampco Flashlight, as part of its ongoing commitment to modernising the venue and enhancing production quality.
ITA is one of the leading theatre venues and touring companies in the Netherlands, home to world-class actors and an innovative directing team, hosting a wide range of plays, productions and touring performances. Its latest production, Giovanni’s Room, is part of a European tour that rotates between venues of different sizes every two weeks.
For this upgrade, ITA evaluated several lighting control systems, considering factors such as performance, flexibility and reliability.
The team, led by Lighting Coordinator Wannes Klop, selected ETC for its color engine, build quality and control precision, which met both the venue’s requirements and the demands of touring.
The newly installed equipment includes an Eos Apex 5, two Apex FP consoles, two Ion XE 20 control systems, a Programming Wing, an ETC Puck, Fader Wings and Source Four LED Series 2 fixtures. All of this is integrated into a complete infrastructure including ETC Response Gateways and a Sensor3 ThruPower dimming system, giving the team full control over color, intensity and cues both in the theatre and on international tours.

Lighting engineer Wouter Pieters commented on the choice of ETC:
ETC stood out for its color engine and overall quality. The system allows very precise control, which is exactly what we needed at ITA. The hardware, especially the encoders, is extremely useful: we can now work with 14 encoders, whereas previously we had far fewer. With ETC, you have everything you need in a single console.
For his part, Robbi Nassi, Associate Regional Manager at ETC, added:
We are delighted that ITA has chosen ETC to support its ambitious programming. Our goal is to provide tools that give lighting designers and technicians the creative freedom they need, while ensuring reliability and consistency in the theatre environment. ITA’s team has made excellent use of the Apex system to bring their productions to life.
With ETC’s control system now in place, the theatre has enhanced its performances and improved the audience experience across all productions.
