Sommer cable, together with its technology partner Belram, announces the availability of the Fiber eXTreme eXTenders (XT2) series featuring HICON’s HI-FIBER4 system, a high-performance solution designed for the fiber-optic transmission of AV and data signals in professional environments.
Designed for broadcast, live events, AV installations and industrial applications, these extenders ensure stable, latency-free transmission over long distances, even under demanding operating conditions.
The XT2 series enables the transmission of HDMI signals up to 4K60 4:4:4, 12G-SDI, Gigabit Ethernet and USB over singlemode or multimode fiber, reaching distances of up to 10 km (singlemode) or 1 km (multimode), depending on the model. In addition, true plug-and-play operation allows for immediate commissioning, with no complex configuration required.

The XT2 extenders are housed in robust extruded aluminium enclosures, built for rental applications, intensive live use, or permanent installations. For the fiber interface, they feature HICON’s HI-FIBER4 socket, compatible with up to four standard LC connectors or two LC duplex connectors. The system can be completed with the HI-FIBER4-MC metal connector, featuring IP68 protection (when mated) and a push-and-pull locking mechanism, ensuring reliability in real-world working environments.
In addition, the units include integrated LED status indicators that provide real-time information on connection status and signal availability, simplifying troubleshooting and speeding up setup. As an alternative to the HI-FIBER4 system, the series is also available with opticalCON or FiberFox connectors.
With this expansion, the XT2 series is established as a reliable, high-performance tool for professionals who require uncompressed fiber-optic transmission of AV and data signals, with maximum stability and ease of integration.
