NAB news: agentic AI takes center stage

Saleha Williams: "The industry is changing and IABM must change too"

The newly appointed CEO of the International Trade Association of Broadcast & Media Technology (IABM), Saleha Williams, has combined creative, commercial, and technological interests in the media field throughout her career. This means she is in an ideal position to drive transformational change at IABM.

When Saleha Williams states that “I always wanted to be in media and technology from a very young age”, there is no doubt about it. Having immersed herself in computer technology during her school years in the 1980s, she held a Saturday job as an assistant at a local newspaper, facilitating the transfer of advertisements between the art and printing departments. At 18, she joined News International during the period when they acquired Sky TV, before moving on to work in BT's advanced technology services, which later became its innovation labs at Adastral Park in Suffolk.

Content Everywhere: personalization in the AI era

Content Everywhere companies consider service personalization to be an area where artificial intelligence (AI) and data will play an increasingly transformative role in the competitive streaming market.

AI and machine learning (ML) are expected to underpin new hyper-personalized experiences, making every viewer feel like a valued subscriber. The evolution of personalization approaches and tools due to advances in AI is examined, along with why it is crucial for providers to stand out and what the key challenges are.

AI through the looking glass: digital natives

When it comes to AI, the media and entertainment industry should take a more active interest in the opinions of young people if it wishes for them to remain part of it.

When seeking the "industry perspective" on almost any topic of general interest, the tendency (and rightly so) is to turn to the experts for whom that topic is their specialty. However, what often happens is that, although the resulting commentary and analysis is generally of great value, it can also start to feel rather familiar if it comes from a group of "usual suspects".
