Sommer cable expands its portfolio for professional studio applications with the new SC-Octave Tube Stereo Microphone Cable, a solution designed for stereo tube microphones that combines high-quality signal transmission, effective protection against interference, and outstanding flexibility.
It integrates eight conductors within a single durable jacket. The four audio conductors dedicated to the stereo pair are each composed of 72 ultra-fine strands, ensuring linear transmission and exceptional flexibility. These are complemented by two control conductors, one anode conductor, and one heating voltage conductor, enabling the cable to meet even the most demanding requirements of modern studio environments.
A full shielding system consisting of a spiral copper braid and aluminum foil (AL foil) reliably protects signals against electromagnetic interference. In addition, its robust 6.5 mm PVC jacket ensures excellent durability and easy handling, even in intensive studio and live sound applications.
The cable was developed in close collaboration with industry professionals.
As an international service technician specializing in the maintenance of vintage studio microphones, I am frequently faced with the need to replace defective or aging cables in stereo tube microphones such as the AKG C24 and the Neumann SM Series. Until now, however, there was no suitable material available for this task. Existing cables were either too stiff, too thick, too microphonic, or lacked the robustness required for everyday studio work. With these requirements in mind, I contacted Sommer cable at the end of 2025. In a very short time, the Octave Tube Stereo was developed — a cable that performs exceptionally well both electrically and mechanically, while offering excellent flexibility and ideal dimensions. The technical support and communication from Sommer cable throughout the process were outstanding, explains Peter Drefahl.
